About ICFG
The International Center for Future Generations (ICFG) is a European think-and-do-tank for improving societal resilience in relation to exponential technologies and existential risks. ICFG focuses on cause areas such as: Climate Crisis Solutions, Biorisk Mitigation, and Technology Risk Mitigation.

About the role
We seek to employ 1-2 full-time research assistants to support its research agenda on long-term governance in the European Union, initially for a one-year period.

As a research assistant, you will provide assistance on a number of activities, such as:
• Mapping of long-term and existential risk academic communities in Europe.
• Developing recommendations for improved long-term governance.
• Organizing a conference on long-term governance in 2023 Brussel.

Additionally, you will support a PhD-researcher in qualitative and quantitative data analysis.

Candidate requirements

Essential criteria include:
• Experience in execution of independent research projects, at least at the level of a masters’ thesis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to perform literature reviews and search for data sources.
• Ability to interpret and analyze patterns or trends in data.
• Ability to perform work requiring great accuracy and attention to detail.

Criteria that are considered a plus:
• Experience of communicating research findings to decision makers outside academia.
• Knowledge and interest in existential risk and longtermism.
• One of the research assistants will focus primarily on quantitative data analysis. Candidates for this role should have an undergraduate and Masters degree in a discipline that requires quantitative analysis and data management, such as economics or econometrics, and have experience using Stata, R or similar programs for analyzing large scale data sets.
• If working remotely, living within sufficient proximity to Brussels to occasionally meet there is considered a plus.

Commitments
• Full-time position (40 hours per week)
• Regular overtime expected
• National and international travel required

The ambition is to scale out ICFG to become the most impactful think- and do tank in our cause areas in the European Union. ICFG focuses on cause areas such as: Climate Crisis Solutions, Biorisk Mitigation, and Technology Risk Mitigation.

About the role
The ICFG is looking to appoint a mission-oriented individual to join them as their first CEO, who will implement the vision for the Institute and achieve its ambitions of becoming the leading think and do-tank in the outlined cause areas globally. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will lead in shaping a vibrant and sustainable future for the organization and ensuring that the ICFG will deliver on its strategic objectives. The CEO will support and build synergies and relationships across the sector, also ensuring that the ICFG secures the support of current and additional partners.

In this role, the ICFG seeks a senior leader who brings direct experience in co-designing and implementing strategies and has worked in foundations, thinks tanks, or public affairs. The CEO is equipped with a broad network and a good understanding of the sectors relevant to the ICFG. Equipped with emotional intelligence, the ideal candidate is an excellent team player who communicates clearly and effectively and has experience building and strengthening working relationships inside and outside the ICFG.  One of the more important responsibilities of the CEO is to hire, build, shape, and support the team towards success and foster a culture of respect and accountability within the Institute. Moreover, the CEO will demonstrate a deeply rooted sense of urgency and a genuine alignment with the values of ICFG and the stakeholders and sectors it aims to serve.
